Baking a Christmas Gingerbread House | Blogmas #17

17 Dec 2017

Hello everyone, so sorry that todays post is so late, I have been busy baking this gingerbread house and took me and sam nearly the whole evening! But was so worth it because it tastes so good! I thought I would share with you the recipe and how we made it.

Ingredients

120g dark brown sugar
3 tbsps golden syrup
2 tsps ginger
1 tsps cinnamon
100g butter
250g plain flour

for the icing

2 egg whites
icing sugar

  1. Begin by placing the dark brown sugar into a saucepan on a very low heat.
  2. Add the 3 tbsps of golden syrup and let that melt.
  3. Next, add the ginger and cinnamon to the mixture.
  4. Now add the butter and let that melt into the mixture.
  5. Once everything is combined, remove the pan off the heat and sieve in the plain flour.
  6. Once it is beginning to look like it can be handled, use your hands to place the mixture onto a clean surface.
  7. Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough until its around 0.75cm .
  8. I made some stencils to cut around and i'm sure you could find loads of templates online you could print and cut out!
  9. now place the dough onto a baking tray lined with grease proof paper and bake for 10 minutes.
  10. Once they are removed from the oven let the pieces cool for another 10 minutes to let them set.
  11. To make the icing, take 2 egg whites and slowly add the icing sugar until it is thick enough.
  12. Place this into a piping bag and begin to decorate the different pieces.
  13. Once this is dry, you can begin to assemble the house.I tend to dip the pieces in the royal icing and add a little to the base too to make sure its definitely going to stay!!
  14. And that is it, it may take a little time but its so worth it when it all comes together.

I really hope you enjoyed this post and I will see you next time xxx
